Johnson City, Tennessee • Southside Neighborhood Organization
Last Monday I attended my first SNO meeting as an official voting member, having purchased a tree streets home this fall. As a new member, I was welcomed by many but stunned by others, and by a few was accused of attending only for improper reasons. I have been involved in the Tree Streets community since arriving to Johnson City in 2006. However, I didn’t attend many meetings. The few that I had attended while being a renter at Montrose Court were uncomfortable. I felt unwelcomed to the ‘neighborhood association’ —which technically shouldn’t be JUST a ‘home owner’s association' --- even though I paid to be a member at my first meeting (my check was cashed but I never received the newsletters, etc.). Despite all this, when I purchased my new (and first) home, the president of SNO kindly invited me to be a member and to come to the next meeting. Dr. Green has been very helpful over the years and is the one who invited me to the first meeting many years ago. I came to the meeting because I remembered his kindness of including me in the neighborhood. Let me conclude with one final suggestion: No one should assume that those who do not come to regular meetings are not interested in the goings on in the meetings and/or neighborhood. After all, the SNO website allows many of us who cannot make the meetings regularly to be informed as to what is going on.
