Wood collum splitting, help?

Anybody has a good recommendation for a carpenter or contractor that actually knows how repair wood collums? I got plenty of offers to replace them with fiber glass or vinyl one but nobody seems to know how to repair them... It would be so much better if we can keep the original ones? the house being an historic home and also we would rather keep them.

Sorry I don't have answers for you. I have the same question. Have you found anyone that can do this?
